How Our Specialists Conduct Glaucoma Surgery:-

01.

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is applied to numb the eye, and sedation may be used to help the patient relax. The area around the eye is sterilized to prevent infection.

02.

Incision or Laser Application

A scleral incision is made in trabeculectomy to create a drainage channel, or a goniotomy is performed using a laser to open the trabecular meshwork. In tube shunt surgery, a silicone tube is inserted into the anterior chamber to direct aqueous humor into a reservoir plate.

03.

Fluid Drainage

The newly created drainage fistula in trabeculectomy allows aqueous humor to drain into the subconjunctival space, or a drainage device (e.g., Ahmed valve or Baerveldt shunt) is placed to provide continuous fluid drainage, lowering intraocular pressure (IOP).

04.

Closing

The scleral flap is sutured in trabeculectomy, or the drainage tube is secured in tube shunt surgery

05.

Post-Surgery Care

Post-operative care includes the use of steroid eye drops (e.g., prednisolone acetate) to control inflammation, antibiotic drops (e.g., ofloxacin) to prevent infection, and beta-blocker drops (e.g., timolol) to manage IOP. The patient is instructed to wear a protective eye shield.

06.

Follow-up

Tonometry is performed during follow-up visits to monitor IOP, and the eye is examined for complications such as hyphema, infection, or wound leakage. Further interventions, such as laser suture lysis or additional drainage devices, may be necessary based on recovery.
